Description: Mercadien’s Nonprofit & Human Services Group is a proud sponsor of CNJG 2023 Conference For The Social Sector: Doing Good Better which takes place May 23rd from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The conference theme will focus on our initiative: Doing Good Better, a partnership between the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers and the New Jersey Center for Nonprofits. This long-term initiative aims to shift the culture of the New Jersey philanthropic and nonprofit ecosystem by encouraging funders, nonprofits, and government to create shared power rooted in collaboration, mutual trust, and respect.
Lovepreet Buttar, CPA, MBA, CGMA, PSA, Managing Director, will be participating on a panel, Developing Trust Through Finances. This panel discussion will cover what donors and funders look for in the audited financial statements and the tax returns, how to make sense of the responses to each section, a refresher on the IRS requirements, and more. It will devote special attention to key narrative sections of the audited financial document and what you should expect to see in the free-form Schedule O. The panel will also discuss the sections funders often use for analysis: the Statement of Functional Expenses, and the year-over-year financial comparisons in the first-page summary section. And lastly, touch on areas where you might find common red flags.
