Tax returns can be complicated, but your piece of income tax season doesn’t need to be. This year, you’ll be able to save time and enjoy a streamlined, paperless, and automated experience using TaxCaddy and SafeSend Returns.

SafeSend Returns is a user-friendly and highly secure software solution that makes it easier for you to review and sign your tax return from the comfort of your own home or anywhere with an internet connection. The process is simple and secure: verify your identity, enter an access code, and follow the step-by-step instructions to review and sign your tax return(s).

Once you have gained access to your tax returns, you will be able to:

  • Download, review and/or print your tax returns.
  • See if you owe taxes, are receiving any refunds, and see your estimated tax payments (if applicable).
  • Electronically distribute your K-1s to your Partners/Shareholders (if applicable). Here is a link to a short K-1 Distribution Video that will walk you through this process.
  • Electronically sign your e-file authorization forms. **For personal returns, the IRS requires identity verification. Please do not be alarmed by the personal questions as these are pulled from public databases. You will have 7 tries to correctly answer at least 3 questions.

For those filing “Married Filing Jointly,” the system will ask you to provide your spouse’s email address. You and your spouse may share the same email address if your spouse does not have their own email address.

Your spouse will then receive the same email and follow the same instructions to electronically sign the e-file authorization forms. Please note, the IRS requires both individuals electronically sign independent of each other.

What internet browsers work to access SafeSend?

We recommend that you use Google Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Edge, or Safari. We do not recommend Internet Explorer because Microsoft has stopped supporting it, which can cause issues when working signing your returns.

Where can I find my SafeSend link to my tax returns?

Your tax return is located under a link specific to your return and tax year. The link is emailed to you once your return is complete. If you cannot find the email in your inbox, please reach out to your Mercadien tax advisor to re-send your personalized link.

I created an account, but I didn’t receive my access code. What should I do?

Check your spam/junk email folder. If you do not receive your code within 10 minutes, please request another code.

Are my documents available for download?

Yes. You will be able to download the final documents after you have reviewed and electronically signed your documents.

Can I set up reminders for my payments?

Yes. If your tax advisor sets up estimated payments for the coming year you will automatically receive an email reminder.

How will I receive notifications when my return is ready to sign?

You will receive an email notification from Mercadien at To avoid these emails getting marked as spam, we recommend adding our email to your safe list.

How is this different from e-filing?

E-filing submits your tax return to the IRS. SafeSend Returns only allows you to electronically sign your authorization form(s). Once signed, Mercadien will be notified and will complete the filing process for you, including submission to the IRS.

I’d rather print and sign my individual e-file authorization form(s). Can I do that?

Although we recommend using the electronic signature feature whenever possible, you can still print, sign, and mail your e-file form(s) back to Mercadien if you would prefer.
