Pina, CPA, CGMA, CFF, CFE, managing director of The Mercadien Group, principal in Mercadien, P.C., Certified Public Accountants, and co-leader of the Forensic and Litigation Support Services Group, was selected to receive the annual Young Leaders Award from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), which recognizes members of the PICPA under the age of 40 who demonstrate a commitment to the accounting profession through active involvement in their community as well as the PICPA.
Mr. Pina is a certified public accountant and fraud examiner, highly regarded in the fields of corporate accounting and forensic investigations, fraud detection, and civil and criminal litigation support. Also certified in financial forensics and a chartered global management accountant, he joined Mercadien in 2012. Frank’s experience includes assisting legal counsel and their clients with a variety of forensic engagements involving sophisticated employee dishonesty, false financial reporting, misappropriation of assets, vendor fraud, lost profits analysis, rebate payment evaluations, compliance audits and contract disputes, inspections and assessments. He also advises companies and nonprofit organizations on resolution strategies resulting from purchase price and real property tax disputes, business divorces and other compliance-related issues. He is licensed to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Colorado, and is a frequent presenter and author on a variety of topics related to fraud detection, corporate investigations, forensic interviewing and internal controls.
In addition to the PICPA, where he serves on the careers and lifestyles committee, Mr. Pina is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is active in its forensic and valuation services community. He also serves as vice president of the board of directors and chairman of the speakers committee of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Philadelphia chapter; board member and chairman of the advocacy committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Central NJ chapter; a member of the national and local chapters of the Turnaround Management Association; and a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. In 2014, he was honored to win top 40 under 40 emerging business leader awards from both NJBIZ and the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Frank is an active volunteer with numerous civic organizations, including Philadelphia VIP, the Union League of Philadelphia, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern NJ, and the Mercadien Foundation. He is also a founding member of YB Connected, a Philadelphia-based networking organization focused on connecting businesses and charities. A life-long resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Pina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Accounting and Marketing from Drexel University.
