Mercadien Again Sponsors and Celebrates Holiday Community Service

For its annual holiday-time community-giving day, Mercadien sponsored a service fair in partnership with the Office of Service Learning at Rider University and students in the Bonner Community Scholars program.  At the event, held at Rider’s Student Recreation Center basketball courts, approximately 100 Mercadien associates worked diligently in groups for several hours to craft products and gift items for donation to several local charities, which then distributed the gifts to their constituents.

The service activities and stations included:

  • making blankets for the Family Preservation Center
  • assembling dog toys for the Easel Animal Rescue League
  • creating holiday cards for Meals on Wheels of Mercer County
  • wrapping utensils and aspirin for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen
  • assembling book and craft kits for the Millhill Family & Child Development Center
  • designing learning flashcards for Every Child Valued, Trenton after-school program
  • crocheting hats and stitching bonding hearts for newborns at Capital Health Medical Center

In addition, as it has for the past 18 years, Mercadien held a Toys For Tots toy drive at its headquarters, which has been a drop-off and collec tion site for the program, sponsored annually by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, since 2004.  The firm’s associates again generously donated dozens of newly-bought, unwrapped toys for Christmas distribution by the Marines to needy children in the area.
