Mercadien’s Community Service Brings Holiday Fun to the Young

December 2017

For its annual holiday community service event, The Mercadien Group partnered with the Office of Service Learning at Rider University, and students in its Bonner Community Scholars program, to host a festive indoor carnival for the preschool class of the Millhill Child & Family Development Center, a nonprofit organization that provides educational, counseling and family support services to underprivileged children and families in Trenton, NJ.

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, approximately 75 three- and four-year-old children were bussed with their teachers from Millhill to the Bart Luedeke Center on the Rider campus in Lawrenceville, NJ.  They were greeted by 100 Mercadien professionals in holiday gear and cheer, who escorted and assisted them through the numerous games, crafts and activities set up in the spacious center. The stations included face painting, sand art, cookie decorating, slime making, snowman building, limbo dancing, pitch and toss, Hanukah-themed board games, and relay races.  The children also enjoyed a group sing-along and visit from Santa. They returned to Millhill a few hours later with snack packs, their handmade crafts, toys and prizes, and happy memories.

A few days before this event, Mercadien wrapped up its 17th annual holiday toy drive, donating dozens of newly-bought, unwrapped toys for distribution to needy children via the Toys for Tots program sponsored each year by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.  Mercadien has served as an official toy drop-off and collection site for the program since 2004.

Conrad L. Druker, CPA, CGMA, and Managing Director of The Mercadien Group, stated, “Community service is very meaningful to our firm.  These recent events serve not only as a celebration of the season with our associates, but to benefit and brighten the holidays for needful local constituencies.  We are grateful for the opportunity, and to partner this year with Rider University and Millhill, to bring holiday joy to many young children.”
