Mercadien’s Holiday Community Service Events Again Focus on Local Nonprofits & Children

December 2019

For Mercadien’s annual holiday community service event on December 13, 2019, more than 100 associates gathered to assemble tricycles purchased by the firm for donation to two local nonprofit organizations, the Millhill Child & Family Development Center in Trenton, NJ, and Homefront’s Family Preservation Center in Ewing, NJ. The trikes are for use by younger children and will be located at each of the Centers’ playgrounds.  Some of Mercadien’s staff crocheted winter hats and decorated the covers of inspirational writing journals, items that also will be distributed to the organizations’ constituents.

The day of service was hosted again in partnership with Rider University’s Office of Service Learning and, in a nod to Mercadien’s ongoing wellness initiatives, was held at PEAC (Pennington-Ewing Athletic Club), a health and fitness center.

In addition, for the 19th consecutive year, Mercadien held a Toys For Tots toy drive at its headquarters, which has been a drop-off and collection site for the program, sponsored annually by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, since 2004.  The firm’s associates again donated dozens of newly-bought, unwrapped toys, as well as monetary contributions to purchase toys, for Christmas distribution by the Marines to needy children in the area.

The annual December service events are highly anticipated by Mercadien employees. All at the firm are grateful for the opportunity to acknowledge these local community programs and providers; to benefit and brighten the winter holidays and  facilities for their needful constituencies, and to celebrate the season and team-building with associates.

Community involvement and charitable giving also occur year-round through the firm’s Casual for a Cause donation program, the Mercadien Foundation,  and the long-time service of many employees as board and committee members and volunteers for numerous nonprofit and civic organizations.  True to the firm’s collaborative and community-minded culture, the staff held a contest and voted to change the name of the donation program in 2019, from Jeans for Charity to the new and more encompassing, Casual for a Cause.
