The Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation was established by an international group of physicians and researchers to provide an ongoing exchange of information relating to MDS. Since its inception, MDS has conducted 12 international symposia in Austria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden, France, Japan, Italy, Greece, Scotland, and Berlin. A major Foundation effort involves an international information network. This network provides patients with referrals to Centers of Excellence, contact names for available clinical trials, sharing of new research and treatment options between physicians, and extension of educational support to physicians, nurses, pharmacists and patients.
MDS Foundation’s staff is small, but their cause is big; the research they help to advance leads to quality-of-life improvements for individuals managing the disorder and for extended families supporting their loved ones. MDS depends on their technology infrastructure to ensure proper business operations. MDS is also enrolled in Mercadien’s Continuous-Data-Protection (CDP) program, providing tapeless data backup offsite, ensuring business continuity as well as Mercadien’s Office-365 service, delivering email in the cloud for one monthly fee.
