Sherise is a managing director of The Mercadien Group and a principal of Mercadien, P.C., CPAs with a broad base of experience, including expertise in the performance of audits, reviews, and compilations of nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, and colleges and universities.  She also has extensive experience in tax planning, preparation, and reporting for individuals, nonprofit and tax exempt organizations. Sherry is proficient with the tax exemption determination process for nonprofit organizations and maintenance
of exemption for both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) entities, including addressing unique tax issues.  She represents before the IRS individuals and tax exempt organizations on unrelated business tax, proxy tax and lobbying matters.   Sherry also focuses on business planning and consulting for various types of business and nonprofit entities in areas such as budgeting, cash flow management, accounting systems design and board governance training.

Sherry chairs the firm's Nonprofit Services Group, which is focused on identifying industry trends in the nonprofit sector and assisting the firm in its strategic direction necessary to meet the changing needs of clientele in that sector.  Sherry often authors articles for the firm’s electronic newsletter, the Nonprofit Examiner, as well as a variety of other publications, and she is an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Society of Association Executives and a member of its board of trustees.

Sherry is the immediate past chairman of the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors, a member of the board of directors of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton and chair of its Foundation.  A member of the Rider University Accounting Advisory Council since 1997, Sherry serves as a guest speaker/commentator for the faculty and students of the business school. A former president and treasurer of the YWCA of Trenton, she co-chaired its Centennial Anniversary Committee, where she was heavily involved in fund development for the organization.  Her tenure holding various officer positions at the YWCA provided valuable “hands-on” experience in developing governance models for the organization, an overall financial restructuring that included a HUD-based tax credit balanced housing project, a debt workout plan, and an executive director search.

In 2007, Sherry received the New Jersey Society of Association Executives' Points of Light Award for her commitment to the community and was selected as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ in 2006.  In 2002, Sherry received the Ethel Downing Johnson Memorial Award from the YWCA of Trenton.

Ms. Ritter graduated from Rider University with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and is a licensed CPA in both New York and New Jersey and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Government Accountants.  She also holds the designation of Certified Government Financial Manager from the Association of Government Accountants.
